Museum für Gestaltung Zürich

The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is Switzerland's leading design and visual communication museum. Temporary exhibitions present themes and monographs from the areas of product and graphic design, applied arts, photography, as well as architecture, and interior design.  Moreover, daily tours offer insights into the museum’s collections archive of international importance.

The museum preserves more than 500 000 objects, collected from 1875 onwards: its Design, Poster, Graphics and Applied Art Collection hold a wealth of key items illustrating aesthetic development since the early days of industrialization. At the new location, the “Schaudepot” on Toni Campus in Zurich West, the collections are kept under ideal conservational conditions and are accessible to the public in guided tours. Occupying a total of six storeys, three exhibition spaces and a large open-access library are stacked above the archives. As part of Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) the museum is actively involved in education, teaching and research of design and visual communication. The location on Ausstellungsstrasse, one of the most striking examples of the Modern Architecture movement in Switzerland, is currently closed for renovation and will reopen as additional exhibition space in 2017.
